Lets give it up for the West! Naturally, I have to represent the side I live in, so this week’s Jam of the Week goes to the artists Way Out West.

This track has been blowing up since the end of 2009 and is still continuing strong into 2010. I remember hearing this amazing track being spun by John Digweed at Together as One 2010, and everyone in the tent all the way to the VIP area was getting their dance on!

If you are an avid listener of Armin van Buuren’s “A State of Trance” then you might of heard my Jam of the Week, Luigi Lusini – Who We Are (Original Mix). With electronic music on the rapid rise these days, many artists are trying to keep up with the fast growing trend by merging with top electronic DJ’s. Three 6 Mafia and Tiesto, a great example of this merging of genres, made it to my Jam of the Week. The song grows on you the more you listen to it and the music video is filmed at my favorite place to party – Las Vegas! As we all know, Tiesto in Las Vegas isn’t something new, and his series of epic Vegas moments continues with this one!

I hope all you RaveStuff Fans had a lovely Valentines Day, and if you were alone on Valentines Day, its okay because all of us here at Ravestuff love you!

This year I took my Valentine to the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, and for those of you who know where that is, you know how beautiful it gets when the sun sets and the stars light up the dark night sky. What’s even more dazzling are the cities of Los Angeles and Hollywood- they look like they’re lit up with billions of colorful glow sticks at night. It’s there that I got my idea for my special Valentine’s Day Jam of the Week, BT feat. Kristy Hawkshaw – A Million Stars.

With Sebastian Ingrosso and Dirty South remixing Miike Snow’s amazing track “Silvia”, its no wonder why this track is being spun at all the clubs and festivals around the World.

With so much talent coming out of Sweden recently, it’s no surprise that almost all of these artists are Swedish natives, except for ONE! Can you guess?

Glow Sticks - A Look At Our Favorite Glow Product

Glow sticks are by far the most popular and versatile glow product in the world. Dance lovers use glow sticks to give light shows at festivals. Forest rangers use glow sticks to illuminate dark hiking trails in national parks. Marine biologists use glow sticks to explore the wildlife at the deepest depths of the sea. Even parents are turning to glow sticks to keep their children visible and safe when playing outdoors at night!

Chemiluminescence, the use of a chemical reaction to induce light, has been around since before the 70’s. Naval scientists were especially interested in finding a way to utilize glow sticks underwater, and the US navy actually holds several patents for “glow stick” like products today.

How Glow Sticks Work

How do these little tubes create such electrifying colors? It’s simple. There are three liquids within each glow stick : hydrogen peroxide, phenyl oxalate ester, and a fluorescent dye of whatever color the glow stick will be. When you snap your glow stick, the fluids react and release energy. This energy is absorbed by the fluorescent dye, which then produces the brilliant shine that you is the “glow” in each glow stick.

The all time favorite trick to do with glow sticks, perfect for beginners, is the figure 8. First, you take your hands and practice making the figure eight in the are with your leading hand. Bend your elbow slightly, and move only your wrist. You should be forming the figure in a clockwise direction. Repeat several times before adding the sticks! For a visual tutorial, click here.
