Interview with Bruce Kwak aka Dj Bruske on April 23, 2009
Posted by ARNOLD YU on April 23, 2009.
I recently sat down with Bruce Kwak, aka Dj Bruske, who is a twenty three year old up-and-coming Dj from Los Angeles, CA.
Arnold: What was the first rave you went to? How’d you like it?
Dj Bruske: Nocturnal in 2003 in San Bernardino- back then, all the raves were hosted in San Bernardino. I would say it was an eye opening experience and it introduced me to a whole new culture.
Arnold: How did you first get into house & trance music?
Dj Bruske: Well, I started off listening to techno mainstream stuff like Darude, ATB, etc. Then I went to a rave (a massive) and, like I said, it introduced me to a new culture. Being surrounded by a sea of people that are having so much fun and feeling like you belong in a “community” was amazing. From then on, I started listening to the music more often to reminisce about the feeling and fun I had at the rave.
Arnold: Who is your biggest inspiration (in terms of a dj)?
Dj Bruske: It would definitely have to be Tiesto. De plays a different type of music; he has the ability to get different cultures to love him. His music can be emotional or a hardcore dance track. He had 200,000 people attend his show at Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro, which is recorded to be the second largest concert in history! He’s the most influential Dj, in the world!
Arnold: I would have to agree with you on that one. What is your favorite song?
Dj Bruske: Oh man. I can’t decide, may I choose two?
Arnold: Yea, sure, go for it. What are your two favorite songs?
Dj Bruske: They are Tiesto – Walking on Clouds and Glenn Morrison – Contact.
Arnold: Great choices. In terms of Dj equipment, what’s your favorite choice of weapon?
Dj Bruske: Technics SL-DZ1200. Can’t live without it.
Arnold: Nice. So, you told us what your first rave was, but what was your all-time favorite?
Hands down, it would have to be the 2008 Electric Daisy Carnival at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum because it showed just how much the dance culture is growing.
I saw it as a break through event because over 70,000 people attended the event and how much fun the crowd was having was just unbelievable. It’s proof that the movement is getting better and bigger every year.
Arnold: I was there last year too and it was nothing short of amazing.
Next question- what’s your favorite product on RaveStuff.com?
It would have to be the LED rave lights because they can be used to give great light shows.
Well, I’m more of a glow stick person myself, but the LED rave lights are cool too.
So, Bruske, any last words to our readers out there?
Dj Bruske: Don’t discriminate on other dance music. When it comes to dance culture, you should keep an open mind and open ears.
