P.L.U.R: Peace, Love, Unity, And Respect

Posted by ARNOLD YU on April 28, 2009.

You’ve probably heard the term P.L.U.R. being used at raves, on rave websites, or in rave forums- but what exactly does it mean? It literally stands for Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect. Figuratively, this is proof that the rave scene doesn’t deserve the negative connotations that the media has imposed on it. Instead, the scene can actually teach valuable lessons on making the world a more peaceful and tolerant place!

Although it hasn’t been proven, rumor has it that this term first came to be at a DJ dance event.

DJ Frankie Bones stopped his show when a fight broke out in the crowd; picture glow sticks and punches flying everywhere!

Bones is said to have grabbed the microphone and yelled “If you don’t start showing some peace, love, and unity, I’ll break your f*ing faces.” An ironic way to deliver a message of peace, love, and unity- but it worked, nonetheless. The term P.L.U.R. stuck and has been used ever since.

So remember, whether you’re delivering light shows to friends with your LED Rave lights, dancing the night away with glow sticks, or just getting lost in the music, don’t forget the written code of every dance culture event : Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect!
